Friends
of Dukes Meadows Fun runs and big brass band all add up to a memorable
morning and over £1000 for the Chiswick Child and Family Centre
A 33 piece brass band, 40 Children's Fun runners, 150 Fun runners, 400
supporters and bright February sunshine all added up to a memorable morning
at the first Dukes Meadows 5 mile Fun run that raised £1000 for the Chiswick
Child and Family Centre.
Friends of
Dukes Meadows volunteers were out in force on Saturday and Sunday to complete
the restoration of the Dukes Meadows band stand for the first band to play
there for over 40 years. The Fulham brass band entertained and inspired Fun
runners and supporters with popular marches and sporting themes.
40 Children Fun runners completed their own course set out on the plateau
adjacent to the old paddling pool.
150 Fun runners completed the 2-lap 5-mile circuit of Dukes Meadows.
As a result of generous sponsorship by the Riverside Club, all Sponsorship
and entry fees were collected for the Chiswick Child & Family Centre by
parents from the centre. Staff and families from the centre formed the
biggest group of Fun runners on the day. £1000 was collected on the day and
Fun runners are now collecting more sponsorship money to send in.
The event was planned and prepared by Ling and Tim Mack of the Friends of
Dukes Meadows in partnership with a group of local Clubs and societies
including the West 4 Harriers running Club.
Tim Mack, Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Hounslow Brentford &
Isleworth, who completed the run said,
"We are absolutely delighted that so many people have come together to
plan and prepare such an enjoyable event for the Chiswick Child and Family
Centre. We are thrilled to have been able to restore the bandstand and get a
brass band back to Dukes Meadows for the first time in over 40 years. Many
many thanks to everyone involved and to everyone who has come along today. We
hope to get the band back here soon and, with the support of the Riverside
Club, make the Dukes Meadows Fun runs an annual event."
